There are three beautiful rivers that flow through Bandipur namely the Moyar River, the Kabini River and the Nagur River, it is the perfect destination that can be visited year round. The summer months from March to May would be a great time to watch the animals at the watering holes. However, the period between June to October (during the monsoons) is when Bandipur comes alive with greenery all over.

Interesting Facts

Located in the Southern part of Karnataka, Bandipur is one of the oldest wildlife sanctuaries in India. The Bandipur National Park was made by the Maharaja of Mysore in the year 1931 and was then spread over an area of 90 sq.kms. It was later increased to 800 sq.kms and renamed the Venugopal Wildlife Park after the residing deity. The name Bandipur National Park was given in the year 1973 when the Government took over the park under the Project Tiger Scheme and was made into a Tiger Reserve.

Flora

Bandipur is home to a rich variety of flora. You would find a number of varieties like the Tectona Grandis, Bambusa Arundinacea, Dalbergia Latifolia, Terminalia Tomentosa, Anogeisus Latifolia, Terminalia Chebula, Pterocarpus Marsupium, Adina Cordifolia, Randia Uliginosa, Amblica Officianalis to name a few. For the nature lover, the Bandipur National Park is a treasure house waiting to be explored.

Fauna

Bandipur houses several exotic varieties of fauna. While on your safari, keep a look out for tigers, elephants, sloth bare, four horned antelope, Sambar, Chithal, Gaur and many more. Several birds like the Grey Jungle Fowl, Malabar, Trogon, Woodpecker, Weaverbird, Brown Hawk Owl, Weaverbird, Kingfisher, Bay Owl, Warbier and a number of rare species are found here.
