Nagarhole- The Stream of Wildlife

Deciduous forests, beautiful landscape spread between Kodagu and Mysore districts, Nagarhole is nature resting place. It is home to elephant, tiger, panther, sambar, chital, sloth bear, leopard, jungle cat, jackal and wild dog. Apart from wild animals, the park is teeming with a large number of birds. About 250 species of birds are present in the Nagarhole National Park. Some of the birds that you may come across are Malabar trogon, crested hawk-eagle, crested serpent-eagle and Malabar pied-hornbill.

Interesting Facts

The original forest of Nagarhole was a game reserve of the Maharajas of Mysore. The park has a healthy tiger-predator ratio, other than that bison and elephants too are much populous here.

Fauna and Flora

Mammals: Elephant, Jackal, Tiger, Panther, Gaur, Muntjac, Sambar, Spotted Deer, Mongoose, Civet Cat, Hyena, Dhole

Reptiles: King Cobra, Krait, Python, Viper, Tortoise, Monitor Lizard, Toads etc.

The main trees found are Rosewood, Teak, Sandalwood and Silver Oak.
