
Pandavapura- An epic Village.
A quiet village, surrounded with beautiful paddy and sugar cane fields, Pandavapura is an agricultural village. Situated at the base of the tall, rocky hill known as Kunti Betta, Pandavapura is a must visit weekend getaway. Kunti Betta comprises two rocky hills separated by a valley accessible via flight of steps. The valley houses an antiquated temple and large monolithic rock cut images of Nandi and Ganesha. The Mallikarjuna Swamy temple here dates back to the period of the Pandavas.
After marvelling at the antiquity of the place and soaking in the rugged beauty of the rock formations, climb the steeper left flank of the hill… visit the small plateau houses Kunti Kola- a small rock depression where rainwater gets collected and a giant formation resembling a footprint known as Bheemana Pada… hit the eye. The top of the hill offers panoramic vistas of the surrounding countryside, lakes and manicured agricultural expanses.
Interesting Facts
The name Pandavapura means ‘Town of Pandavas.’ Mythology states that the Pandavas during their period of exile stayed here for some time, and Kunti, mother of the Pandavas, liked the hillocks so much that it is said to have become one of her favourite haunts.
The town is also named after the Pandavas because of their brief stay in this region. The name "French Rock" dates back to India's Pre-Independence days, the place was used as the camping ground by the French army, which came to help Tippu Sultan in his war against the British.
It is believed that French named the small town as "French Rocks", as the town is in the vicinity of two rocky hills. After Indian Independence these rocky hills called as "Kunti Betta" by locals.
The Location is best advantage for adventure seekers, its boulders are places perfect for adventure sports like rock climbing, rappelling and river crossing and the Vishveshwariah water channel give access to kilometres of country rafting.
