Sangama



Sangama- River Confluence

Low Hills, rocky knobs and out crops, begins Sangama the confluence of two rivers- Arkavathi and Cauvery.

This place is around 110 km and 2 hours drive from Bangalore. The road takes a steep dip into a valley and offers a nice view of the running river. Mekedatu is 4 km from Sangama for which you can take a bus or trek along the river banks as preferred by most. There is a deviation towards left at 5 km before Sangama to reach Chunchi falls. Activities around include trekking into Cauvery Wildlife Sanctuary and fishing.

Interesting Facts

The River has otters, crocodiles and many varieties of fish. The famous Masheer fish is found here. The jungle contains very valuable trees like rose wood, teak and several hard wood. Evergreen sholas have joined forces with the hills and valleys to give us mortals a manifestation of divine beauty. Also, this is a bird watchers paradise. About 100 species of birds are identified and listed here. If this is not enough, add elephants, spotted deers, sambars, wild dogs, barking deers, jungle fowl, huge monitor lizard, giant squirrels, peacock, and monkeys to get the whole picture.
