Uttarakhand

The land of Gods ('Dev Bhoomi'), Uttaranchal, is found at the foothills of the Himalayas. A land of pristine mountains, snow capped charming hillstations, the holy Ganges, the green valleys makes it a sight of beauty.

Uttaranchal's capital Dehradun is the picture-postcard hillstation. A pre-Independence English settlement gives the town an English air to it: stone walled buildings and cute cafes. The dehra forests are a bio diversity hub. You have to see Mussourie, north of Dehra. Mussourie is yet another of the cute hillstations that Uttaranchal has. Popularised by Ruskin Bond, Mussourie is the perfect getaway at the base of the Himalayas. The “charming-little-tourist-town-list” continues with Nainital.

Kumaon, the hills of the tigers. Popularised by Jim Corbett stories, Kumaon is a  wildlife repository. Jim Corbett national reserve is a must-see, for nature is at its wildest best here, with tigers, snow leopards and leopards being its wild inhabitants. The Himalayan mountainous valleys are snow capped, beautiful and wild, indeed. Nanda Devi, the second highest peak in India, is in Uttaranchal. A tour to the Nanda Devi national park should be on the itenary for every wildlife enthusiast. Eyecatching glassy glaciers in this state will make one catch their breath. The valley of flowers, the most beautiful and one of its kind valley of the Himalayas, falls here. It is home to the famous Gangotri glacier – birth place of the India's life giving river, Ganga. You definitely want to try Kayaking, Rapelling, white water rafting in the river Ganga – and luckily for us all, Uttaranchal is a hub of sporting activity. You can even try mountaineering, rock climbing, bungee jumping, cliff jumping and work that adrenaline!

Uttaranchal is considered the most holy state as it has many piligrimage places for the Hindus, all throughout the state. Not surprising, as it holds India's most sacred river, the Ganges. Kedarnath, Badrinath, Rishikesh, Haridwar are some holy places of worship

Rishikesh! It is the ultimate retreat in the East. From the Beatles (who have composed over 45 songs during their stay here, including - “The Happy Rishikesh Song”), to famous hollywood stars like Kate Winslet and Brad Pitt – everybody has professed their love for this wonderful sanctuary of beauty. Rishikesh is also the highlight of the adventure sports at Uttaranchal. Well, a healthy mind in a very fit body is clearly its mantra.

A trip through Uttaranchal is cleansing. Such mesmerising beauty would only remind one of One's maker. Uttaranchal reminds everyone of the splendour of nature and the grandeur of its maker. The beauty of this places, humbles mankind. It is indeed, the “Dev Bhoomi” : the fabled Land of Gods.
